Live Streaming of Online Training, Performances, and Symposia is an extension of Nrtyakala School, Menaka Thakkar Dance, and Kalanidhi Fine Arts International Dance Festivals artistic activities into virtual space by fully integrating the digital technologies of online interactive training in dance and live streaming of dance concerts at distant locations over the internet, thus making Indian dance universally more accessible, affordable and creative. Now you can join Nrtyakala, MTDC, and Kalanidhi globally connected training, performance experiences and other Indian educational or cultural events from anywhere in the world, in your own time.

The Origins of Live Streaming:
Menaka’s pledge - A speech given in response to the presentation of the Governors General Lifetime Achievement Award for Performing Arts – June 2013 

I am deeply honoured by the presentation of the Governor General’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Dance. This moment seems to summon up all my life’s work and validates it by the enormous support from all of you. But more than an individual life, it also stands to honour an entire cultural heritage and accept it as part of our collective Canadian life. We truly live in exciting times and place (Canada) where the ancient Indian adage re-echoes strongly: Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (The whole earth is my family). 

But this moment also humbles me; for it reminds me that my life’s work is far from over. My own passion to spread the beauty and understanding of dance must continue beyond these past 40 years in Canada. The memories of those hours spent on stage, in studios, museums, libraries or in the gym of an elementary school in all those far off underserved areas of Canada, burn brightly in my mind. Can I continue that work even now at 72? 

Fortunately the internet has opened up new paths before me to fulfill this mission. Therefore it is in this moment of recognition that I pledge my commitment to making Indian dance even more accessible, affordable and enjoyable for all Canadians. With the aid
of live streaming and interactive dance training we will reach distant locations from our studio in Toronto. The work has already begun and I promise that there will be no looking back. Your support for my work is most heartwarming.
